Time flies when you are having fun – but we must have dinner and take some time to visit with the loved ones if we are lucky enough to have some.

OK to be honest I would still be back online for the night shift and by the time I realize I can barely see I have worked for 12 hours (ok with breaks).

Do you have that self-esteem and self-confidence that will get you through the dark days? Almost every successful person will say that they failed over and over before they figured out what to do. One quote I like is ’success is just getting past all the failures’.

Becoming discouraged is counter-productive to say the least. It could even prove fatal to achieving your goals. It is natural, if you have been really trying and not seeing any results, to be less willing to spend your time and resources, and you may begin to feel there is no sense in ‘throwing good money after bad’.

This is why you can’t allow yourself to become discouraged. You must consciously force yourself to become MORE DETERMINED than ever. ‘Quit’ is not in your vocabulary if you are really committed to your dream of having an internet business (or anything else).

It all boils down to faith – faith in God, faith in yourself, and faith in the process. Faith and common sense are two completely different things. While we need both, when it comes to not seeing results, common sense should tell you that you need to keep trying and try harder. Faith will tell you never to give up no matter what. Cut-back or make sacrifices, but just keep pushing toward your target.

Another saying I like is ‘you can’t fail unless you quit’. That’s right! Refuse to quit. Refuse to be discouraged. Don’t even get skeptical. Just know that sooner or later you will figure out what works, and you will triumph!

This is why it is important to try many different techniques at the same time. This is because even if each thing only works a little bit, if you put them all together they add up to something! Naturally you quit what isn’t working – but be sure to give it enough time to work before you give up on it. Even the ‘big boys’ think a 2% response is not to be scoffed at.

Sorry, one last applicable saying: ‘If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again’!

It is amazing to me how many people are only interested in ‘get rich quick’ schemes – by magic, overnight, without any effort. Hello, this does not exist! There is no free lunch! Success in internet marketing requires consistent, aggressive action over time to produce results.

If you are actually seeking online business opportunities seriously, you will read the fine print – the earnings disclaimers, the terms of service, and maybe even do due diligence by investigating the principle or company’s reputation. For a ‘Join Free’ or $10., no obligation situation, you may not bother, and will do your research by trying it first hand.

You will, if logical, then differentiate between reality and hype. You will decide if there is a viable business opportunity or that there is nothing of substance – it’s all hype.

Even when the program’s compensation plan, bonuses, resources, support and training are of actual value, they will scream ’scam’ if they don’t see results almost immediately. When they realize that there is w-o-r-k involved in success, and that in real life things take t-i-m-e to develop, they will pick up their marbles and go home.

Here is the deal: No programs work unless you do! Sometimes even when a program has a good concept and gives good service, they are often times deemed to be a scam. It is not fair that simply because people expected miracles and/or don’t give the program enough time to work before they pass judgment, that they can then go and seek to ruin your reputation.

Is there any way we can protect ourselves? On one side of the coin, the marketer needs to be careful not to over-hype or assume people will understand to ‘read between the lines’. The prospective buyer needs to be beware – not just of hype, but of their own silly, unrealistic expectations. Get real, people!

However, I never have a problem with long diatribes in the Internet Marketing Warrior Forum where I am a moderator, and this article is a version of a post I did there recently. In fact in 3 years I have become the 3rd and 4th most prolific poster in the forum. (right now I am neck and neck to get back to 3rd). Yes, 7401 posts.

So what is up with the blog block? I guess because in a forum you get a reaction or response and that makes it more conversational. They don’t call me Chatty Patty for nothing!

In addition I respond to over 100 emails everyday in my capacity as the member support director of PlugInProfitSite.com — Did I mention diatribes?

Back on the track of this post: How Long Will it Take to See Results with Internet Marketing?

There really is no average – there are actually too many variables to get scientific about it. We all come to the table with different skill sets, we put forth a different amount of effort, we have different amounts of time to devote to promoting our business.

Then there are the things like the seasons of the year and when you started. For instance summer is slow industry wide due to people being on vacation or outdoors and not online as much. Same can be said for holidays. People are spending money on gifts, not starting businesses.

Some don’t follow directions. Many get the ‘candy shop’ mentality and waste money and time on gimmicks and junk from the 1990’s. They may fail to see the necessity of staying industry savvy. Things change and we must adapt.

Internet marketing changes like the phases of the moon. Things tried and true get worn out quick, not to mention dear Google’s propensity to disqualify the very thing they loved 3 months prior. They are the first to notice when techniques and strategies are over-used or people are inventing ways to trick them.

Even the economic index/consumer confidence can affect sales anywhere and everywhere including the Internet; such as are people hanging onto their last dime because they fear losing their job? Or are they looking to start something on their own for the same reason? Do they have extra money to spend on starting a business?

Still more factors – any new business takes time to get off the ground – the statistic taught for offline business is 5 years to be in profit – surely it is not that long online, but at the same time there is no magic here either and it does take time. (not to mention how much more inexpensive an online business is to run than a brick and mortar business.)

Marketing is a numbers game and you have to put out lots of ads to get a small return. So you have to be consistent and aggressive and do as many techniques as you can – many of the most effective are free so if you are thinking it is about having money to make money, that isn’t necessarily true.

Although like real life it is easier with money, you can’t spend your way to success. Success is spelled w-o-r-k.

One saying I like is ‘be divorced from the fruits of your actions’ – this means get in there and push and don’t worry about how long, how much, etc. Just give it everything you’ve got and don’t worry or allow yourself to get discouraged when you don’t see results right away.

Set small, achievable goals for yourself so you don’t get disappointed. Like start with 3 sales a month. Then make it 6 and so on. Now get going!
