A Typical Day in the Life of (Riley) an Affiliate Marketer
There is a whole new world on the internet for an affiliate marketing business. What a joy compared to being tied to the telephone or traveling to meetings.
With email, web conferencing services, forums, online chat clients and Skype, and assuming that the affiliate is working from home, a day in his or her life may be something like this…
After waking up and having coffee or breakfast, the computer is turned on to check out communications and new developments in the network. Maybe check some traffic and/or sales statistics.
Always a good idea to check your sites and be sure they are up and running. Sometimes the site design could use a revision or two. The savvy marketer knows that a well-designed site can increase response and sign ups from visitors. It can also help in the affiliate conversion to sales rates.
Maybe today would be a good time to submit the affiliate program to some new link directories. Posting to these directories is a convenient and free way to attract people that may join your affiliate program or even other marketers that might want to joint venture or swap advertising.
Time to remember the beauty of affiliate marketing – the affiliate programs are handling your sales for you, fulfilling your orders and providing your customers with service.
So maybe it is a good time to touch base with your downline, and you shoot off a broadcast or two just to remind them you are there if they need you and are interested in their success.
As well remember to always respond quickly to any communications you may have received from prospects or affiliates. Nothing impresses more than being made to feel that they are important to you and that you are actively engaged in your success.
To be honest here it is time to take a break – have lunch, go to the gym, do some shopping, watch a soap or do some housework. Remember, we work to live, not live to work. You really need to take breaks for your eyes and your back. This is not being a flake, it is being healthy.
Ok here we are back at the wheel. Time to check-in with the forums and chat rooms and network a little. Engage in some conversations or start one. Post some things so you will get some backlinks.
In the process of doing all the necessities, there are things to be learned and it is a continuous process. Sharing tips and advice is a good way of showing support. There may be others out there wanting to join in and may be enticed by the discussion that is going on.
There are newsletters and ezines that are being updated all the time, so it is time for the affiliate marketer to see if there are some new things happening in the market.
Take this information and post it on your blog or write an article about it and submit it to a few directories. Maybe save it for your next broadcast to your list.
These same publications are also an important tool in keeping up to date with the newly introduced products. The marketer should always be on the look out for more things to add to their portfolio of products, programs and services. Keep feeding that ‘multiple income stream’.
Of course this also will generate new ideas to write about in your blog, ezines, article dirctories and forums tomorrow or the next day.
Time flies when you are having fun – but we must have dinner and take some time to visit with the loved ones if we are lucky enough to have some.
OK to be honest I would still be back online for the night shift and by the time I realize I can barely see I have worked for 12 hours (ok with breaks).
Time to organize your work space and do a little PC maintenance once in a while. It is very hard to go home from the office when you work at home. You have to force yourself…
nighty night, sleep tight don’t let your program bugs byte!

Hi, Patricia:
Nice personal feel to your post and very good insight into the life of Riley, ah, er, Patricia. And great marketing recommendations, too.
Hey! I had a computer bug yesterday! Fortunately, it was crawling the OUTside of my computer and I squished it (it’s ant season in northern Alberta!)
Keep up the good work and great inspiration, Patricia.

Hi Pat,
I like your style! I usually take a break after the first paragraph, and forget to come back, so I need this type of post to keep me on my toes.

Having started this morning around 10:30AM I kind of know how you feel. But I don’t work that long everyday. Plus I believve in taking breaks. As Jack Nickolus once said, “just a little Siesta”, for the day.

Hi Pat,
I think people should devote a little more time on link building by following a proven strategy. It’s a long process to get to top SE but today’s pain = tomorrow’s gain.
Take a peek at my link building strategy here:

You know Pat, I’ve always enjoyed reading your posts and this one is no different. You always seem to remind us to take that break and walk the dog and stuff like you mentioned here – work life balance. Thanks for that.
